I demonstrate a way to work with students who need some support with the first steps of composing sentences with a few given words. The technique of "cut up", which is just cutting up little pieces of paper so that every word can be moved around independently, can be very helpful. Remember to have the student read their arrangements aloud. This auditory check helps the student develop a better "ear", just like with music, to actually hear good sentences and to notice errors or poorly constructed sentences.
